BC Newfs have been very busy this summer. We started with setting up committees for the 2010 National which we will be hosting April 4 in Chilliwack BC. We hope to see many of our members from across Canada and the US in the spring. Don’t forget to keep an eye on the website. Summer started with a Very well attended Carting clinic. And as the summer came on we organized a club Pancake Breakfast& Newfy walk on June 28 at the lovely home of Lin & Barry Palmer. This event was enjoyed by many Island members as well as some mainlanders, not to forget to mention members from Washington and, yes, Australia. We even had Newfy shaped pancakes for breakfast, thanks to the ingenuity of Doug Savory. The walk was about 1.5 miles of beautiful Island scenery. Our club raised $2,500.00 selling tickets for a cruise with CruiseLottery. We would like to thank all of our fellow NDCC members for assisting us selling and buying the tickets. The draw was held August 9. We have been blessed with a gorgeous summer with 1 Saturday of rain between May and September. Several Island members met every Saturday morning to practice for the 2009 water test, although none of us had ever titled a dog as WRD we were encouraged and assisted throughout our training by Denise Castonguay who provided several tips to help us along the way. Two weeks before the test Gizmo Savory invited all of his Newf friends and people to join him at his summer place on Hornby Island for water training on Little Tribune bay, water fun and just an all around great time. Gizmo has a new boat “The Gizmark”, and he allowed each of his Newfy friends a turn at towing him in, as he proudly captained the ship! Four Island teams felt confi dent enough to enter the test, however 2 were unable to attend. And the two of us, from the Island, that did attend came away from the test with great hopes for next year and we had a great time. Plus, we had our own cheering section thanks to Doug, Cindy, Joan & Gizmo (with a sore toe). Our water test was held September 12, at Whonnick Lake, Maple Ridge BC. There were 15 junior division dogs and one senior division. Out of the entries, 2 withdrew and 7 passed, the senior division dog also passed for a very successful test for 2009. Now more planning for the National! Submitted by Kathy Coombs
